Turquoise: The Traditional Birthstone
Turquoise is the birthstone for December and the traditional gift to commemorate the 5th and 11th years of marriage. It's color is, of course, is referred to as turquoise, but the hue can range widely from the familiar green-blue to a light sky-blue.

The Birthstones of March
March has two very different birthstones, Aquamarine and Bloodstone. Both are beautiful minerals with very Interesting histories. Bloodstone has found its way throughout history connected with the Christian religion. Aquamarine would find its role amongst the men who sailed the sea.

October's Birthstones
There are two birthstones which represent October. One is Opal and the other, Tourmaline. The name "Opal" comes from the Sanskrit word for "upala," meaning precious stone. In Indian mythology, the virgin Goddess of the Rainbow was turned into an Opal by the Mother Goddess because she was being chased by suitors Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. Of all the minerals, tourmaline exhibits the broadest range of colours. Tourmaline has even been mistaken for rubies and emeralds! With a more varied color range than any other crystal, tourmaline was called the "Stone of Light" in Arabia.

The hottest hue!
An old Apache legend says if you dig into the soft, sweet-smelling earth at the end of a rainbow, you'll find turquoise. I love that legend. Like many people, I'll take turquoise over gold any place I find it.
